Small convoys on forest roads, sand tracks and river fords that a city SUV won’t manage. Legal roads only, no tearing up the meadows. At every stop an outdoor kitchen. In Lithuanian we call it Šunkeliais: “along the dog’s roads”, the little roads behind the main ones.
A Meatlander trip series run by Tomas from Kaunas: meat from our own supply, cooked ahead on a kamado, served at a shared table. Guided in English, Polish or Russian. Roof tents from Meatlander available for weekend trips.
Most 4x4 offers sell the driving. We sell the evening: a camp, a shared table and a dinner you can’t reach on asphalt. Serious roads, calm pace.
Up to 8 crews, a radio in every car. Guide in front, a closing crew with a winch at the back. Nobody is left stuck alone.
Gravel, field and forest roads, private land with the owner’s consent. No meadows, no riverbanks. If the road can’t take it, we turn around.
Each trip has its own menu, published with the route. Meat from our own supply, prepared ahead, heated and served on site. Vegetarian option always.
Most trips are one day: we meet in the morning, lunch in nature, part in the evening. A weekend adds a camp, dinner and breakfast.
Away from the asphalt. Closer to the fire.
Five levels by distance: I Day, II Weekend, III Neighbours (nearby countries), IV Mountains, V Expedition. Three classes by what the road asks of the car: calm (a real 4x4 with low range, standard tyres: our main class), serious (prepared, winch, AT/MT tyres), easy (any car, gravel only; a few trips a year).
Every trip has a number, a level (how far) and a class (how hard). Few places, because there is one table. Dates are published here and at sunkeliais.lt.
Guide speaks English, Polish and Russian. Radios provided. The exact meeting point and route are sent as the date approaches. Weekend trips: rent a Meatlander roof tent and arrive with nothing to pack.
You get the small green booklet on your first trip. Each trip leaves a stamp with its number and date, and a patch for the level. Five stamps, five patches, and the Carpathians are yours. Kids get a navigator’s booklet with tasks and a certificate; dogs get a paw sticker.
Price per crew: the car and two people. Everything included: guide, radio, food, camp. Paid in advance by invoice; places limited by the table.
